Meskla

At the foot of the White Mountains, south of Chania, Meskla is a lush, cool village with running water, plane trees and orange groves — a delightful oasis close to the city.

The village has ancient roots (built on the site of ancient Rizinia) and boasts magnificent Byzantine churches, such as the Church of Christ the Saviour with its 14th-century frescoes. Its tavernas are renowned for their trout and Cretan cuisine.
