Kavousi

On the isthmus of Ierapetra, on the north coast, Kavousi is a picturesque village with olive groves — in fact, one of the world’s oldest olive trees, thousands of years old, grows here.

The area is of great archaeological importance: on the surrounding hills (Vronta, Kastro), important sites from the Post-Minoan and Proto-Geometric periods have been excavated, shedding light on the transition from the Minoan world to historical times.

Tip: Look out for the ancient olive tree — a living monument to nature.
