Historical & Folklore Museum of Rethymno

In the heart of Rethymno’s old town, housed in a beautiful 17th-century Venetian mansion, the Historical & Folklore Museum sheds light on the daily life and traditions of Crete in centuries past.

Its galleries display traditional costumes, woven fabrics and embroidery, tools used in farming and craft trades, pottery, baskets and household items. The collection highlights the craftsmanship and self-sufficiency of traditional Cretan society.

The building itself, with its architecture, is an exhibit in its own right.

Tip: Ideal for gaining an insight into what lies ‘behind’ the picturesque alleyways of the old town.
