Krousonas

On the eastern slopes of Psiloritis, Krousonas is one of the largest mountain villages in Heraklion, with a cool climate, lush vegetation and a long tradition of livestock farming.

The village has a strong history of resistance during the German occupation. Today it is renowned for its festivals, Cretan music and traditional meat dishes. Hiking trails leading to the peaks and plateaus of Psiloritis start from here.

Tip: If you happen to be there during a festival, you’ll experience an authentic Cretan celebration.
